my mom was visiting recently and we hit 2 neighborhood yard sales on saturday morning. i prefer neighborhood sales, because you can hit bunches of yards all within a short distance. those and church rummage sales are the best, IMHO. i have been on the lookout for a new coffee table as we were borrowing the one we had, and came across this one...

...only it didn't look like this, and i FORGOT to take a before picture. i know, how are you supposed to get the full effect, right? try, just try imagining.... it was a much lighter wood-stain... lighter even than our floors. i used "espresso satin" paint from home depot ($2.98/can x 2 cans), and i'm pleased with the result. the 1st coat actually looked much smoother, but there were some spots where the lighter color was showing through so i decided to do a 2nd coat.

i'm pleased. not bad for a $5 table and $6 in paint. now...i just have to decide what other pieces of furniture in my living room i want to paint to coordinate. most likely, the telephone table and the buffet....stay tuned...
